Bernard Marcus (born 1929 in Newark, New Jersey) is a founder of the Home Depot.
He was born to Russian immigrant parents in Newark, New Jersey. He grew up in a tenement and wanted to become a doctor. He couldn’t afford the training, so he worked his way through Rutgers University to earn a pharmacy degree. Later, he worked at a drugstore and a cosmetics company, among other jobs, eventually teaming up with friend Arthur Blank to open The Home Depot.
