Karl-Heinz Kipp founded the Massa chain of German department stores in 1948. Sold the chain in 1985, but retained the underlying real estate, which he now rents to giant retailer Metro. Also owns extensive real estate holdings in New York City and four luxe hotels in Switzerland.
